Friends of Jaloppo XCAR Films have recently posted a video highlighting a recently-booming grassroots motorsport in the UK. Up until now we haven't really had a direct equivalent of American Autocross (our Autocross takes place on grass, if memory serves), instead having the much more complicated Autotest that involves spinning your car around like a toy car in a child's hand, but neater. Now we have Autosolo, a dirt-cheap forwards-only version... well, forwards-only if you know the route.
It looks awesome and all you need is local car club membership, £30 and a road-legal car. Alex Goy took a Seat Mii (VW Up clone) and Caterham Supersport, champions of the two sorts of car the sport suits, to see how lost he can get.
Oh, and if you somehow haven't seen one yet, this is an Autotest run, featuring... prodigious talent:
Apologies if the top video has already been posted.

Aww hell yes. I've been hoping for this to cross the channel for a while now.
Now all we need is ChumpCar (a more racing-focused LeMons) and I'll be set.

I don't even understand how that autotest car works. How is he getting from forward to reverse so quickly?

That seems a little more complex than is necessary, and I tend to have a palate for the needlessly complex. Interesting to see American motorsport influencing motorsport over there.

He made a deal with the devil. He's the fastest-shifting man in the whole west...ern hemisphere.
Or it's an auto 'box or maybe just a one-speed 'box, so he only has to move it up or down.
Or I have no idea.
Probably the first one.

The best thing about US Autocross is "run what you brung". Its cheap fun and teaches you to learn your(driving) and your car's limitations in a safe environment. And a little drift never hurt anyone, although it does nothing to improve your time. I will agree with the OP one one thing - for a novice, it takes a while to really understand how to read a course, walk it, and then remember your driving lines when its your time to go.
I'll just leave this here
